Hi Heather! I'm really glad to see this discussion as it's something I've been looking into for the past few months.
The conclusion I've arrived at is that, whilst I very much want to get the transparency that DAOs offer, the tooling isn't really ready for prime time. The learning curve is too steep, and tools are sparse and clunky. I think they're only really viable if all participants are already into Web3 and know how to use wallets securely.
The main thing I think is missing is an easy-to-use, reputable, "multisig", custodial service that allows people to participate in governance after logging in with their Google/Facebook/corporate/etc credentials. No Metamask, no seed phrases. Maybe there's something like that already and I'm not aware?
